After a disappointing debut, director Amit Sharma’s biographical sports drama “Maidaan” exhibited signs of life over the weekend, achieving its highest single-day collection on Sunday.

Maidaan Sees Weekend Boost in Collections and Occupancy Despite Fluctuating Audience Turnout

Released on April 11th, the film garnered ₹6.40 crore net in India on its fourth day, reflecting an 11.30% increase according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Maidaan’s total domestic net collection now sits at ₹22 crore, with a global gross of ₹32.2 crore.

While Sunday saw an overall occupancy rate of 22.87% for Maidaan in the Hindi market, the audience turnout fluctuated throughout the day. Morning shows started with a modest 12.48% occupancy, rising to a peak of 31.36% in the evening before dipping to 18.61% for night screenings.

However, the presence of “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” at the box office continues to pose a challenge for Maidaan’s growth. Despite receiving negative reviews, the action film managed to collect ₹9.05 crore on Sunday, representing a 6.47% improvement from the previous day. Its total domestic net collection now stands at ₹40.8 crore.

Devgn’s Box Office Domination Continues: Maidaan Follows Shaitaan’s Success

Maidaan marks Ajay Devgn’s second release of 2024, following the success of the supernatural horror film “Shaitaan.” Shaitaan emerged as the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film of the year and the second-highest in the Hindi market, raking in over ₹205 crore worldwide.

In a review for The Indian Express, film critic Shubhra Gupta praised Devgn’s performance, stating, “Ajay Devgn portrays Syed Abdul Rahim with genuine sincerity and a subtle touch of slow-motion swagger. His ragtag team boasts a composition so wonderfully diverse that it evokes a sense of nostalgia.”
