The Bharatiya Janata Party organized a significant campaign in Varanasi, spanning over 24 hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded a massive campaign tour, followed by the entire National Democratic Alliance leadership accompanying him during his nomination filing for the Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday.

Contrasting Nomination Events

A noticeable distinction arose when comparing Rahul Gandhi’s nomination filing in Raebareli on May 3. Unlike the BJP’s grand show in Varanasi, Rahul Gandhi’s event lacked major party allies. Akhilesh Yadav, a prominent member of the alliance, was notably absent, signaling a lack of INDIA bloc support.

Family Affair vs. Political Support

Rahul Gandhi’s nomination event appeared more familial, with the presence of Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Robert Vadra, and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. However, the absence of senior party members during Kishori Lal Sharma’s nomination filing in Amethi highlighted a lack of substantial political backing.

Contrast in Nomination Filing

On May 10, Congress candidate Ajay Rai filed his nomination in Varanasi with minimal support, contrasting sharply with the BJP’s unified presence during Modi’s filing. The absence of the Gandhis and other key leaders underscored a significant difference in approach.

Modi’s Dominance

PM Modi’s nomination filing event in Varanasi was a grand affair, attended by top NDA leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, and Yogi Adityanath. The BJP emphasized NDA unity by ensuring the presence of key allies, in contrast to the absence of INDIA allies during Congress events.

Caste Balance and Representation

The BJP strategically maintained caste balance during Modi’s nomination filing, showcasing Pandit Ganeshwar Shastri, Baijnath Patel, and Sanjay Sonkar as proposers representing different demographics.

Overall Impression

While Modi exuded confidence in Varanasi through his robust campaign and nomination filing, the Congress appeared uncertain in Raebareli and Amethi. This stark contrast serves as a significant indicator for the 2024 elections.
