Amwoodo, a manufacturer of eco-friendly bamboo products headquartered in Kolkata, has secured $1 million in funding. This investment comes from Rainmatter, a venture capital firm supported by Zerodha.

Funds Fuel Expansion and Innovation

The capital injection will be strategically directed towards enhancing Amwoodo’s operations in several key areas. The company plans to upgrade its machinery and equipment to improve production efficiency. Additionally, resources will be allocated to upskilling artisans, ensuring a highly qualified workforce. Finally, the funding will facilitate Amwoodo’s expansion initiatives, propelling the company’s growth trajectory.

From Raw Bamboo to High-Quality Products

Established in 2019, Amwoodo specializes in crafting a diverse range of bamboo products. Their offerings include combs, toothbrushes, razors, slippers, compostable sanitary bags, and towels. The company sources its raw bamboo directly from around 400 farmers in India’s northeast region. Furthermore, Amwoodo collaborates with a network of approximately 380 artisans who contribute their skills to the production process. To guarantee export-quality standards, the final refinement of the products takes place at Amwoodo’s factories situated in Howrah, Kolkata.

Catering to Diverse Clientele

Business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) are the two markets in which Amwoodo works. Their B2B clientele includes prominent hospitality chains like Taj Hotels and The Leela. Amwoodo also caters to the B2C market, supplying products to direct-to-consumer brands such as Himalaya, Man Company, Nat Habit, and Kimirica.

Impressive Growth and Ambitious Goals

Amwoodo reports achieving sales of Rs 21.72 crore in the previous financial year, demonstrating their established presence in the market. Looking ahead, the company has set ambitious sales targets, aiming to reach approximately Rs 60 crore in the current financial year. This funding from Rainmatter positions Amwoodo for continued growth and solidifies their commitment to providing sustainable bamboo products.
