A fire broke out in a 14th-floor apartment on Nargis Dutt Road in Mumbai’s affluent Pali Hill neighbourhood on Wednesday evening. Fortunately, the blaze, which originated in the kitchen and primarily affected wooden furniture, was contained and extinguished by 9:34 pm, with no reported injuries.
The fire was confined to the kitchen of the unoccupied apartment, minimizing damage to surrounding areas. Firefighters employed a high-pressure line from the building’s fire suppression system and a hose line aided by five pump trucks to extinguish the flames effectively.
Celebrity Proximity
While the 15th-floor resident, actress Jacqueline Fernandez, was unharmed during the incident, the building houses numerous celebrities, including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Emraan Hashmi, reflecting its status as a sought-after address in Mumbai.
Building Features and Investigation
Residents confirmed that the building, completed recently with residents moving in over the past year, boasts a modern fire suppression system that proved instrumental in containing the fire. Additional fire officer (ADFO) SK Bangdar stated that investigations into the cause of the fire would commence on Thursday. This incident highlights the importance of functional fire safety systems in high-rise buildings, especially those housing a high density of residents.
