Flutrr, a Kolkata-based dating app, is making waves in the Indian online dating scene by catering to users who prefer to connect in their native languages. Unlike most dating platforms that primarily operate in English, Flutrr offers support for six major Indian languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, and Bengali. This approach bridges the gap for millions of young Indians in Tier II and Tier III cities who are not comfortable using English for online dating.

Capitalizing on the “Jio Effect” and Digital Inclusion

India boasts a vibrant youth population, with a significant portion residing in smaller towns. Many of these young individuals lack fluency in English, but the widespread availability of affordable internet, driven by the “Jio Effect”, has opened doors to online experiences. Flutrr recognizes this shift and empowers these users by offering a platform in their preferred languages.

Flutrr’s Funding Journey and Vision

The startup has garnered significant investor interest, recently securing Rs 2 crore in funding. This round included investment from renowned actress Huma Qureshi, alongside angel investors like Sandeep Bhattacharya (former CMO of Hoechst and Merck) and Yogesh Mishra (Director of PayPal USA). Flutrr’s total funding to date stands at approximately $750,000 (Rs 6.5 crore), with notable backers including The Times of India, The Chennai Angels, and executives from tech giants like Google, SAP, Microsoft, and DBS.
