German automaker BMW Group and Tata Technologies, a leading global engineering and digital services company, announced a significant partnership on Tuesday. The collaboration involves the formation of a joint venture (JV) dedicated to establishing a cutting-edge automotive software and IT development hub in India.

Spreading Operations Across Key Cities

The JV will encompass three Indian cities: Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. As per the joint statement released by the companies, Bengaluru and Pune will serve as the primary locations for development and operational activities. Chennai, on the other hand, will focus on spearheading business IT solutions.

A Collaborative Approach to Software Development

The JV’s core objective is to deliver advanced automotive software solutions, including Software-defined Vehicle (SDV) technology for BMW’s premium car segment. Additionally, the venture will provide digital transformation solutions to enhance BMW’s business IT infrastructure.

Scaling Up for Future Growth

The JV is poised to begin operations with a team of 100 specialists and intends to rapidly expand its workforce to “a four-digit number in the coming years,” according to the statement. This signifies a long-term commitment to fostering a robust software development team in India.

The newly established JV will become a vital component of BMW Group’s international network of software and IT hubs. This strategic integration positions India as a key player in BMW’s future software development endeavors.

He specifically acknowledged India’s vast pool of talented software professionals who possess the necessary skills to bolster BMW’s software development capabilities.
